Pluto Stations Direct

September 28th ~ October 5th

The Abduction of Proserpina by Hades

We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned… so as to have the life that is waiting for us. The old skin has to be shed before the new one can come. ~ Joseph Campbell

This weekend Pluto will station and resume Direct motion. For the 5 months every year that Pluto is retrograde, we have a greater capacity to heal our wounds, address our fears, and stand up to our own insecurities. But it is when the planet stations that all the wraiths and demons seem to be released. Pluto, although frozen in the bleak outer limits of our Solar System has a profound and powerful association with our inner world: the psyche; our urges; what drives us on very fundamental levels. Retrograde Pluto has been doing its work on these very deep levels: purifying, breaking down, healing and rebuilding. And now as this tiny planet stations Direct, stuff all rises to the surface.

When planets station they are quite strong. They literally appear to stand still in a specific sign and degree, digging in and entrenching. All the more so for the Lord of the Underworld as he turns about in his hidden lair, creating ripples of tension along the surface. There is something quite significant about this station, although we may not see the ramifications of its significance until 2019-20. Pluto has been in Capricorn since 2008 challenging the status quo and transforming the structures of our lives. Pluto is not only the Lord of the Underworld, he is also the God of Wealth and Power. Significantly, Capricorn is a sign that represents the powers that be: Leaders in Society; Governments; the Patriarchy:those who hold the Power.

Last December, Saturn the Grim Reaper himself, entered Capricorn and has its sights set on Pluto. They will collide over the next few years. This station of Pluto is staging Pluto for that collision course. This conjunction of the Titans will coincide with the Nodes of the Moon moving back to Cancer/Capricorn, and in 2020 with the transit of Jupiter to Capricorn as well. Pluto dares us to confront our own relationships to power: dare we see the toppling of governments? the breaking of glass ceilings? the fall of the patriarchy? With Regulus now in Virgo, a sign of the feminine, and the North Node entering Cancer, the sign of the Women, we are truly going to be seeing the Year of the Woman.

Opportunities to find deeper powers within ourselves come when life seems most challenging. ~ Joseph Campbell

Pluto has domain over our fears, our compulsions, our wounds, our obsessions; those hidden things that drive us on a subconscious level. In order to have greater control over ourselves, and our lives, these inner wounds and fears need to be confronted and healed. Facing our own darkness can be one of the most challenging, but also freeing experiences we will ever have. As Pluto stations it rakes up the forbidden,  digs up the shame, guilt, hunger and fear. We carry these as ailments, aches and pains in our bodies, and anxiety and fear in our psyches. They cannot be covered over with a bandaid, and must be uncovered in order to heal them. It can be an incredibly painful process, requiring absolute honesty and trust. But the final step is one of healing, self-transformation and rebuilding.

The Abuse of women and girls is the most pervasive and unaddressed human rights violation on earth. ~ Jimmy Carter

Dr. Christine Blasey Ford took to the stand this week and spoke truth to power. She dug down deep and had the incredible courage to face her fears and challenge the prevailing toxic and sexist patriarchal culture that has been undermining our current culture. No matter where you stand politically, to watch her testimony was incredibly compelling. As Pluto stations Direct this week, it will be followed by the Retrograde Station of Venus next Friday in the sign of Scorpio, a sign co-ruled by Pluto. We’ll be talking a lot about gender roles, sexuality, and the use and abuse of power over the next several weeks. We stand at a critical turning point in history. We should pay attention.
