September 27th ~ October 4th
Today, like every other day, we wake up empty and frightened. Don’t open the door to the study and begin reading. Take down the dulcimer. ~:~ Let the beauty we love be what we do. There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground. ~ Rumi
There is a New Moon in Libra on Saturday, opposing the centaur Chiron on the opposite horizon in Aries. They are trying to tell us a story about restoring the balance in our lives. New Moons bring us the opportunity to begin anew, to set new intentions and purposes for the month ahead. Libra is a sign of harmony, moderation, balance and beauty. At this Moon we are being asked to pay attention to where our lives may have become imbalanced, and what we might need to do to restore that balance. Ever since Chiron entered Aries last year, we’ve become more aware of where we have allowed certain boundaries to erode. We have also been shown where we need to release old contracts and soul agreements that are no longer valid for the person we have become.
It may be that certain changes are due in order to bring our lives more in alignment with our true life’s purpose. But first we have to acknowledge those things and activities that resonate most strongly with our true heart’s purpose and desires. Libra is a sign of compromise and agreements, but with the opposition of Chiron, we are being reminded that agreements should serve both parties equally. We can get so lost in pleasing others that we may not leave enough space for our own self-care. So when we ask ourselves where we need to restore balance and harmony in our lives, we may also ask ourselves how we may have denied ourselves the very things that we love most and that truly resonates with our heart’s desires.
Libra is a Venus-ruled sign, so you always want to pay attention to where Venus is and what she is doing at the time of the Libra Moon. Libra is a sign of relating to others, relating to who or what we are attracted to and love. A glorious Venus/Jupiter sextile aims to bring us closer to those desires: whether it be a loved one, a lifestyle, a path that we call our own. Whatever we aim for from this day forward, may it be that which resonates the most with our hearts. Venus is strong in her own sign of Libra, as is Jupiter in its sign of Sagittarius promising joy and fulfillment if we would only follow our hearts. Dare to ask yourself who or what brings you joy and laughter, and allows your heart to sing?
But perhaps even more intriguing is the connection between this New Moon and the upcoming Full Moon on October 13th. In addition to the sextile to Jupiter, Venus is also approaching a dynamic square to Pluto this week which will be echoed by the Full Moon on October 13th. Pluto is also currently stationing this week. You can just feel the rumbling, tossing and turning as the Dark Lord shifts in his underworld lair. With these Pluto squares to the inner planets in Libra we are going to see alliances changing. It will soon become apparent where old agreements are redundant, and which alliances are better served. As a result we are also going to be seeing some interesting, albeit potentially contentious, shifts in power over the next few weeks.
For the past year, Pluto has been traveling in proximity to Saturn and the South Node of the Moon, getting entangled in the eclipses, and making vast shifts in the infrastructure, globally, nationally and in our own lives. Now that Saturn and Pluto are direct again we can expect some karmic chickens to come home to roost. Things that we had previously assumed to be reliable and able to support and sustain us are either being threatened, or are no longer sustainable. Something may be so oppressive that it is no longer bearable. Those things that are no longer working or relevant will need to end. However out of the ashes of what was, we will then have the opportunity to rebuild our lives, ourselves, the infrastructures of our lives with a more stable, more reliable and sustainable foundation.
In order to do this we are going to have to divest ourselves of a lot of unnecessary baggage. Whatever is no longer serving us and who we are, will begin to feel unwieldy. What is old, outworn, and no longer valid or working will need to be repurposed, renovated or rebuilt. Between now and the New Year, think about where you need to create these important changes. In what area of your life do you need to focus on healing and rebuilding?
Pluto can often represent things that we would much rather not have to deal with or have to face. Therefore a certain amount of courage and self-honesty are required. Any big changes or hard decisions made last April when Pluto stationed retrograde will begin to show both its consequences and rewards, now that Pluto will be moving direct again. The Pluto/Saturn conjunction last Spring can force us to walk through darkness, loss, shame, betrayal and pain in order to reach the light. And sometimes we need to break all that down in order to rebuild. Now that both Saturn and Pluto are moving direct, it is time to get our lives back on track. Between now and January when Saturn and Pluto will be exactly conjunct, ask yourself: In what area of your life do you still need to focus on healing, renovating and rebuilding your life? These can no longer be avoided.
It is by going down into the abyss that we recover the treasures of life. Where you stumble, lies your treasure. The very cave you are afraid to enter turns out to be the source of what you are looking for. ~ Joseph Campbell
