August 26th ~ September 2nd
May we raise children who love the unloved things ~ the dandelion, the worms & spiderlings, Children who sense the rose needs the thorn; & run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards the sun… And when they’re grown & someone has to speak for those who have no voice; may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things; and be the ones. ~ Nicolette Sowder
On August 27th (or 26th depending on where you are in the world), we have a New Moon at 4º Virgo 04’. Here in the Northern Hemisphere. Virgo season is when we send the children off to school, and get our lives back on track. This is when we restore order back into our lives, after the wanton days of Leo, and get back down to business. With a close square to Mars, now in Gemini, it will be none too soon. For nothing can happen quickly enough when the New Moon is so closely square impatient Mars in Gemini.
With the Moon so closely configurated with Mars this year we’ll all be feeling pretty motivated to do stuff, organize our lives, and get back to business. Mars brings initiative, courage and action. However, we would all be wise to weigh our options carefully, and not leap in without carefully examining the consequences! And not to mention all of the chaos, bafflement and anxiety that can ensue when we impulsively bound into things without looking.
Mars is just infusing this Moon with all this energy, which can be great to get us motivated. But in our haste to get things moving and our lives back in order, we could devolve into a mass of disorder instead. I used to have a co-worker who when urged to move faster would get all flustered and beside herself, muttering like the March Hare in Alice in Wonderland: “the faster I go, the more behinder I get”. I always think about her when I am being rushed. In Virgo weather, we are learning to use our time more efficiently and effectively, despite and especially when we are being rushed and hurried along.
Doing things quickly may seem like the efficient ways of doing things. But instead what happens is that in our hurry to accomplish our tasks, we miss important details along the way, and then have to make up for it later on, taking us that much longer to make our way there. New Moons are best used for sowing new beginnings and positive intentions. And with the square to Mars, there is an added urgency to take our lives in hand, and Do something. To be pro-active. It’s just added wisdom to do so carefully and intentionally.
The Hurrier I Go, the Behinder I get. ~ The March Hare (from Alice in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll)
What New Moon in Virgo energy is really good for:
Organizing our lives: whether that means our schedules, our environment, or our routines.
That includes taking care of the clutter in our lives: cleaning the house, taking care of the accumulated papers, and tackling the mayhem under the sink. And let us not forget the clutter in our own minds.
Get through your to-do list. Things that you were avoiding need to be brought forward. Mars in Gemini will bring us the energy and courage to tackle those hard to get to chores.
Take care of any paperwork, red tape or civil service issues that have been lying around.
Anything to do with food, diet, nutrition, organizing the kitchen and our recipe box. All those activities that support our health and well-being fall under the aegis of Virgo. If you have been something of a slacker lately, use the New Moon to get yourself back on track.
Take a trip to the Farmer’s Market, fill up your refrigerator with healthy whole food alternatives, and make it a point to learn a new recipe.
Creating a healthy, doable, and sustainable routine, schedule or regimen. One that supports your goals, but also your own well-being.
Attending your well-being also means scheduling appointments with skilled workers/practitioners/doctors and health workers as needed.
Incorporating self-care activities into your daily routine that focus on decreasing anxiety and stress.
Learning new skills or further perfecting the skills you have. This can be as simple as organizing your files or learning to do what you do more efficiently. Or learning something new and crafty that can also prove to be useful.
Doing service. Writing. Editing. Anything that would help to improve your work or work environment.
Virgo has domain over: The desire for perfection. Attention to detail. Perfecting Skills. Useful skills. Finding ways to be of service. Organization. Clerical work and data entry. Writers, Editors and Critics. Creating Order out of Chaos. Purification, cleansing and detox. Cleaning. The digestive system. Healthcare, Wellness, Healing and remedies. Medicines and Herbs. Kitchen Magic. Health Regimens. Nurses, Doctors and Health Practitioners. Anxiety and the Nervous System. Daily Routines. Workers and Employees. Unions and Union Jobs. Government workers. Bureaucracy. Work habits. Whole Foods. The Harvest. Food Service and Restaurants. Farms and farm workers. The Environment. Mother Earth. Animals, pets, and all beings that do not have a voice of their own. The disenfranchised. Those in service. Those who are humble.
New Moon in Virgo homework: What needs to be organized in my life? What can I do to decrease stress and anxiety in my life? What can I do to help out? Is there a better or more efficient way of doing things? If I were to embark on a plan of self-improvement, where do I want to start?

I stand in awe of nature’s bounty and wisdom, and its natural capacity to restore health and vitality.
