For the week of December 23rd thru the 30th, and the New Moon in your Solar and/or natal house:
Aries
(10th House) The New Moon in Capricorn for Aries is an opportunity to explore your potential. Although we traditionally make our New Year’s resolutions on New Year’s Day, this year, the best time to do so would be on the New Moon on December 23rd. This is a time of pure potential for growth, and setting goals for excellence and improvement. We are all encouraged at this time of year to reflect on the past, and consider those things that we have had enough of, and are willing to let go of, as well as to consider those things that we would really like to further improve and cultivate. When we have Capricorn so highly placed in our natal or solar chart, as Aries does, the idea of achievement takes on a whole different meaning. There can be an element of ambition and wanting to succeed. To be the best. But it has to be what is best for you. It’s not about impressing others, or being flattered and cajoled by the glitter and glamour of rewards. It’s about being the best you can be, and following your own inner muse. And as you create your own individualized road map for the year ahead, what would that look like for you? What would bring you that feeling of having reached some sort of pinnacle of achievement that means something special to you?
Taurus
(9th House) With Venus Sextile Neptune this week we are being asked to be shown the best ways to make our dreams, hopes, and even our ideals, a closer reality. There are many ways to do so, and perhaps the best way might be to put your ideals and spiritual aspirations into some sort of practical and useful application. That’s the beauty of Capricorn season: to see sustainable, realistic and achievable ways to make our goals, and our dreams a closer and more practical reality. And with the New Moon in Capricorn on Friday, December 23rd, you could be feeling the urge to walk the walk as well as talk the talk. One of the keys to truly understanding the sign of Capricorn, is about understanding the value of integrity, and to be true to who we are, and what we value most. The New Moon in Capricorn is an opportunity to make those values a lived reality. This can be done by setting goals for yourself that will further support your beliefs and values. Or by simply sitting with yourself, and exploring those things that you believe to be true about the world and your role in it. This is a New Moon about growth, and the best and most achievable ways to realizing that.
Gemini
(8th House) Mercury, your ruling planet is slowing for its retrograde station on December 29th. But before that we have the New Moon in Capricorn on December 23rd. Mercury is also in Capricorn and so will be serving the same ends that are being seeded within the raw potential of the New Moon. Capricorn is usually where we fear changes, and might prefer things to be more predictable. But Capricorn season is also a reminder to us that all things are subject to this evolutionary process of birth, growth and eventually decay. So this can also be a time of releasing that which we have outgrown, This can in turn make room for new and even better things, habits and experiences to take root. Use the New Moon on Friday, or Saturday, to make your resolutions for the year ahead, and then use the Mercury retrograde phase that begins on December 29th to further tweak or perfect those goals so that they will be more achievable and sustainable. What are the things in your life that you would you like to change, to improve, or to overcome? This is your week to create a plan to do so.
Cancer
(7th House) The New Moon in Capricorn falls just a few days after the Solstice this year, a time of year that is already ripe with raw potential and new beginnings. In ancient times this was considered to be not only the end of the year that was, but the rebirth of the year to come. As a Cancer you are more intimately in tune with the Lunar cycles, and their dance through the signs throughout the year. And so this time of year is interlaced with reflection on the past, as you look back on the experiences of the year that was, while also looking with anticipation towards the year that is now unfolding before you. Capricorn is the relationship sign for Cancer. It is also a sign of commitment and promises. For Cancer, cultivating strong and reliable relationships in your life are key to fulfilling that sense of community and belonging that is so essential to Cancer. Use the New Moon on Friday, to further strengthen your most important relationships, and open your heart to embracing those new ones into your life, that will allow you to continue to grow in ways that you might not have previously thought was even possible.
Leo
(6th House) You have to appreciate the practicality that the New Moon in Capricorn can bring at this most sacred time of year. Betwixt and between the gifts and the festivities, the weeks that follow the Solstice is also a time of great potential. And just as the Sun is embarking on its own journey of renewal, we are also asked to plant seeds of self-renewal, self-improvement, and growth, riding the tide of the solar year. And if we were to make resolutions, commitments or intentions, the best time to do so would be with the New Moon on Friday, December 23rd (or the day after). And the pragmatism of Capricorn is not lost on Leo at this time of year, for this is when you are most inclined to think about things like self-improvement, beginning that new exercise plan, and committing to a healthier, or leading a more industrious life and lifestyle. This is when Leo is inclined to ask themselves, How can I use my time in a more efficient and productive manner? What are those things that most support my health and well being? And how can I further cultivate these, and make them more of a priority in my life?
Virgo
(5th House) Rumi advised us to “Let the beauty we love be what we do.” He was reminding us that there are any number of ways to pay homage to the divine, and that one way to do so is to Do what we Love. This is the gift of having Mercury in Capricorn stationing this week while sextile Neptune. The practicality of the Capricorn Mercury aims to find practical ways to make the ideals of Neptune a closer reality. And we can begin this week through the raw potential of the New Moon in Capricorn on December 23rd. One of the beauties of this combination is the practical application of an inspiring idea. Mercury is slowing for its retrograde station on December 29th. But making your New Year’s resolutions now with the New Moon, and then further tweaking and perfecting them over the next few weeks during the retrograde phase of Mercury, will allow you to ensure that these resolutions will be more likely to gain traction. Another way to ensure their success, is to focus in on only one or two of the most important resolutions that you might want to make for the year ahead. Make them clear and unambiguous. Then commit to making them an achievable reality.
Libra
(4th House) As we prepare to say goodbye to the old year that was, we can come to appreciate the patterns and events in our lives that have brought us to where we are now. It is also a time to be inspired with the possibility of what tomorrow can bring. All the more so with the New Moon in Capricorn on December 23rd, which is ripe with the potential of New Starts, and New Beginnings. For Libra these new beginnings revolve around the foundations of your life, such as Home, Family, and honoring your Roots and Ancestors. For Libra this is a primal sign, signifying both endings and beginnings. Capricorn is significant for its association with honoring old traditions, while recognizing our responsibility to others within our care, that we have been bound to. But within that context we may ask ourselves: Who or what is family to me? Who or what brings that feeling of security and belonging? And what can I do over the year ahead to cultivate that need for security, stability, family and community in my life?
Scorpio
(3rd House) Capricorn is a sign of longevity, strategy and determination. So it is hoped that when we make resolutions at this time of year that they are more likely to take hold. And although traditionally we make our resolution on the 1st day of the New Year, an even better time to make resolutions is with the New Moon in Capricorn on December 23-24th. We can then use the upcoming Mercury retrograde phase from December 29th thru January 18th, to perfect strategies, revise methods, and adjust our goals. To be successful, we are advised to make our resolutions and goals straightforward and simple. Some things that this particular New Moon is helpful for are: Learning better communications skills; organizational hacks that can help you manage your time more easily; perfecting a skill you already have, or learning a new one; improving relations with siblings or close relatives; and becoming better informed. Use this New Moon to create a plan for the year ahead, and then sort out the strategies for achieving them during the Mercury retrograde phase that begins on December 29th.
Sagittarius
(2nd House) For Sagittarius, the New Moon in Capricorn is about making your life, your projects, any new initiatives, more sustainable and manageable. Is your budget working for you? And if not, what can you change to make it more manageable? Capricorn is a sign of strategy and commitment. And looking ahead to 2023, what might be the best ways for you to invest your valuable time, money and resources, in order to bring you the outcomes that you are looking for? This will be especially so if you have been feeling a little over-extended or over-committed, or frazzled by trying to be all things to everyone. The New Moon is a bit of a reminder to channel some of that enthusiasm in a constructive way, focusing in on your most important priorities. Looking at those priorities that are most important to you, ask yourself:
If this is the direction in which I wish to go, what can I do to make this path more easily achievable and sustainable?
Capricorn
(1st House) This New Moon falls on December 23rd, and so will be especially strong for those Capricorns in the first 5 days and degrees of the sign, but all Capricorns will resonate with the New Moon in their own sign. New Moons are times of New Beginnings. Therefore what better time than with the New Moon to create some sort of plan or strategy for the year ahead? Capricorn is best motivated by having sound, clear and realizable goals. So do the same with your own plan for 2023. Make it specific. Make it realizable and achievable. And focus in on the most important goals that you would like to see realized. When the New Moon is in your own sign, the focus is on Self: Self-improvement; Self-realization; Self-Respect; Self-sufficiency and Self-motivation. With Pluto in your sign for the past gazillion years many a Capricorn has been working hard at reinventing themselves in their own image. Therefore this Moon is also an opportunity to embrace and honor the changes in your life that have already been made, while being open to being a truer, and even more authentic expression of yourself in the years to come.
Aquarius
(12th House) The best time for everyone to make their New Year’s resolutions this year would be with the New Moon in Capricorn on Friday, December 23rd (though the 24th would do nicely as well). We are standing on the threshold of a New Year, while also examining the year that was. For Aquarius, this is a time of reflection and releasing. For the past few years Saturn has been transiting your sign, which is often a time of great transitions filled with both endings and beginnings. The New Moon in Capricorn is now asking you to reflect on any changes that have occurred, while also giving you permission to release those goals or things in your life that are not working out, and may in fact be holding you back and preventing you from growing. For Aquarius, the New Moon in Capricorn is a time of Release. Releasing those things that are not working out, in order to allow you to move in a new and better direction later on. The New Moon is a good time for you to regroup and ask yourself: What have I outgrown and is no longer valid for the person I am now? Where have I become stuck, and what am I willing and able to do about that? And if there is nothing I can do about my current situation, what can I change in my perspective to allow me to better cope with my circumstances as they are?
Pisces
(11th House) Sustainability. That is what is being asked of Pisces this year. To follow through on initiatives already started, cultivating and perfecting them, so that they can be more practically sustainable. And perhaps even have some potential for growth. The New Moon in Capricorn on December 23rd is when we are asked to make our intentions not just for the next month, but for the full year ahead. More like New Year’s resolutions rather than intentions. And within the context of growing any new initiatives while also making them sustainable, there are also questions about self-sufficiency, and finding practical ways to make your aspirations for growth a closer and more realizable possibility. One way to do that is to set the intentions with the New Moon on the 23rd, and then use the Mercury retrograde period from December 29th thru January 19th to revise, re-tweak and perfect your plan, letting go of those things that are no longer working, in order to make room for those that have greater lasting potential. A good intention for the New Moon on December 23rd might be: May I take the steps and plot the course, that will bring me nearer to making my dreams a closer reality. When making New Year’s resolutions with the New Moon in Capricorn, make them simple and make them clear, focusing especially on those that are closest to your heart.
