The New Moon in Scorpio: between the old and the new

November 5th ~ 12th

Pressure can burst a pipe or pressure can make a diamond ~ Robert Horry

The upcoming month is just riddled with excitable and unpredictable energy. Launched with a New Moon on November 4th, exactly opposite changeable Uranus, and moving into eclipse season, this is a month in which almost anything can happen. Uranus weather can be all the more reactive and restless, and even explosive, when it is being limited or constrained. And that’s where we are this week. This is when the pressure cooker is heating up, and if we don’t make sure that the escape valve is working, we could end up with things splattered all over the place next week.

On Friday, both Mercury and Venus will change signs. Venus moves into Capricorn on the 5th, where it will remain until March 5th. This is an unusually lengthy period for Venus to be in any sign but thanks to its retrograde from December to the end of January it will be here for a full 4 months. Capricorn is a cautious, conventional placement, where we hold our cards and our wallets close to our chest. We are looking for quality, rather than abundance, when Venus is in Capricorn, and anything that is not living up to our standards will be reassessed during the retrograde in December.

Mercury is moving into Scorpio on Friday, where it will join forces with Mars. There is no stone left unturned, no subject considered taboo, or off the table when Mercury enters Scorpio. Mercury and Mars in Scorpio tells it like it is with no filters. With the eagle eye of perception, it digs up the dirt, and hurls it towards its victim. If only. For no sooner does Mercury meet straight shooter Mars in Scorpio on Wednesday, then they both proceed to simultaneously square Saturn. Nothing makes someone even more angry, more reactive, than pressure, oppressive rules and challenging circumstances. Or it can push you to work even harder.

But with all this pressure building up this week, when Mercury and then Mars oppose radical and reactive Uranus next week, it could make it all that much more explosive.

If you come up against delays, obstacles, or unreasonable demands this coming week, use them to your advantage. This is great weather for activities that require endurance, strength and fortitude. Instead of resisting the Saturn energy use it to focus on a project that’s been lounging on the back burner, or to fight the good fight and show the world what you are made of. This is a better week for working independently, but a sextile between Mercury and Venus earlier in the week is letting you know that help and support is there if you need it.

Ask yourself this week, where are you being blocked? And what is standing in the way of you being able to move forward, take action or assert yourself in an effective manner? In what ways are you holding yourself back by clinging to the past? Or being afraid of the untried and new? If there is something that you can do about your current situation, then do it, and make sure you follow through. Saturn makes us work hard in order to accomplish our goals. So be prepared to go all in for the long haul, but not without keeping your eye on the pressure valve.

What this week is also good for is honoring your limits and being able to say No or cut back. For whatever pressures we’re putting up with this week, will only feel that much more intolerable by the time Mercury and Mars oppose Uranus the following week.
