“Abysm of Time” by Edmund Dulac

Sometimes if you stand on the bottom rail of a bridge and lean over to watch the river slipping slowly away beneath you, you will suddenly know everything there is to be known. ~ A. A. Milne

If there are two outstanding events this week, it is the transit of Mars into Scorpio and the gradual slowing of Mercury as it prepares for its station on the 20th. What makes the Mars shift so important is its emergence out of languorous Libra into the intensity of its own sign of Scorpio. Mars is what motivates us, and invests our will with a renewed sense of purpose. Mars will be strengthened when it returns to its own sign with focused and concentrated determination. Mars in Scorpio brings passion, and the incentive to be more proactive. However, we will also need to be a little cautious, for the first transit Mars will make as it enters Scorpio will be an opposition to unpredictable and potentially explosive Uranus.

Mars/Uranus will attempt to speed things up and derail our plans. It is impatient weather rife with replicating fractals, fractious interactions and edginess. But it is precisely because of this that we dare to see things from another perspective, opening up our eyes to possibility. Even if we don’t want to. It is explosive and illuminating at the same time. We will benefit most from this week’s weather when we take our time to safely explore what is being revealed, provided it is from a safe distance. While wearing appropriate protective gear. Take your cue from Mercury which is slowing down and about to turn direct. Go slow, and don’t rush into anything without having all the facts first.

When Mercury is retrograde, as it has been since October 31st, it is a time of assimilation and reflection. It is when we are best able to absorb all that we have experienced and learned in the months preceding this period. And it is also a time to reassess our lives: how can we make our lives better? what better habits or routines would we want to establish? Is there a better way of doing things?

The week before Mercury goes direct we go through another shift of perception and awareness as we adjust to what we usually think of as normal. We start to put the pieces of our lives together, as more information is being revealed. The station of Mercury will bring a renewal of perspective. From a place of meditative reflection we emerge out on to the world stage once again, armed with information and increased clarity. And we won’t want to rush this, no matter what commotion Mars is stirring up.

Mercury has been silently negotiating the Saturn/Neptune sextile for the past month. And when it stations on Wednesday it will return for its last pass. We are being offered a rare opportunity here to connect with our own higher purpose and make that manifest in some way. But if we rush about madly, and engage in the emerging noise and chaos, we could easily miss what lies beneath. The Saturn/Neptune sextile combined with Mercury in Scorpio is uniquely attuned to visualization and creative self-expression. And as mentioned last week with the Full Moon, Saturn/Neptune aims to align ourselves with our soul’s behests. But in order to do so, we will need some space and silence.

Let us therefore all take some advice from Christopher Robin and find a river to watch. There’s no telling what will be disclosed. As a reminder from last week Saturn/Neptune is about:

  • Getting back to your most fundamental ideals and committing to them. This includes walking the walk, as well as talking the talk.

  • Taking the practical steps to make a dream or an ideal a closer reality.

  • Manifesting spirit through art, music, dance and the creative process.

  • Practicing the art of visualization, through focus, practice and application.

And if you were to visualize a perfect ideal, what would that look like for you? What sorts of things, activities and goals would bring greater meaning into your life? And what practical steps can you take in order to bring your life more in alignment with your ideals?
